Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are being primed for international competitiveness as the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) hosts the fifth edition of its Chamber Bazaar in the Western Region.
The 10-day event has drawn 61 exhibitors from Wa, Kumasi, Accra and across the Western Region, showcasing a wide range of locally made products including African wear, fabrics, beads, smocks, cosmetics, wigs, footwear, jewelry, children’s clothing, and beverages.
Held under the theme “Empowering and Preparing SMEs for Global Markets,” the bazaar is increasingly being positioned as a launchpad for Ghanaian businesses to expand beyond local markets.
Western Regional GNCCI Chairman, Lord Kwame Segbeawu, noted that over the past five years, the initiative has provided critical exposure, networking opportunities, and capacity-building support to help SMEs meet international standards.
He emphasized that with growing momentum, businesses are now better placed to take advantage of opportunities such as the African Continental Free Trade Area, provided they remain collaborative and resilient.
The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, praised the innovation and energy of exhibitors, describing their contributions as vital to regional economic growth. He urged entrepreneurs to stay competitive by adapting to market changes and embracing innovation.
According to him, SMEs must focus on value addition through improved processing, packaging, and branding while aligning their products with international market demands.
He further encouraged businesses to leverage support from key institutions such as the Ghana Enterprise Agency, Association of Ghana Industries, Food and Drugs Authority, and the Ghana Standards Authority.
Additionally, he highlighted efforts to strengthen the Investment and Business Centre under the Regional Coordinating Council to better support enterprise growth.
A representative from the Office of the Registrar of Companies, Samuel Kofi Ganusah, stressed the importance of formal business registration, noting it enables SMEs to access government policies and support programmes.
As part of the celebration, individuals and institutions including Nhyirakese Wellness Centre, Koffman Investment, and Takoradi MP Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah were honoured for their contributions to sustaining the annual event.
The occasion also marked a milestone with the cutting of a fifth anniversary cake, celebrating the growth and impact of the GNCCI Bazaar in promoting local enterprise.
