Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has withdrawn his legal challenge against the GH¢50 million bail imposed by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
His legal team, led by Gary Nimako, formally withdrew the motion on Monday, June 2, a day ahead of its scheduled hearing at the High Court in Accra. The original motion, filed on May 30, sought a review of the bail terms, which Wontumi’s lawyers described as excessive and punitive.
Lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi confirmed that the withdrawal followed the successful completion of documentation for the two justified sureties required for the bail.
He credited former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, with playing a key role in facilitating the process, ultimately making the court application unnecessary.
This development marks a significant step in Wontumi’s ongoing legal battle, though details of the charges or case context remain undisclosed.
