The Sra Langmasi Royal Family and Kingmakers of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area have appealed to Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to withdraw from proceedings involving the long-running Yilo Krobo Paramountcy dispute, citing concerns over maintaining public confidence in the judicial process.
The appeal was made at a press conference held in Somanya in the Eastern Region, where the Stool Father (Setse) of the Yilo Krobo Paramountcy, Mr Dawutey Noah Tetteh, said the request was aimed at protecting the integrity and credibility of the ongoing legal process.
Mr Tetteh explained that the matter was connected to a case before the Supreme Court involving the contempt conviction of Nene Oklepemeh Nuer Anorbah Sasraku II, the Paramount Chief of Yilo Krobo.
He said the Koforidua High Court in 2025 convicted Nene Sasraku II for contempt of court and imposed a four-day custodial sentence, but the execution of the sentence was suspended after an application was filed at the Supreme Court pending the determination of an appeal.
According to him, the Supreme Court was expected to hear the matter on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Mr Tetteh said recent comments allegedly made by some individuals supporting the Paramount Chief had created concerns among members of the Sra Langmasi Royal Family.
He claimed that some supporters of Nene Sasraku II had expressed confidence that the case would be decided in their favour, although he admitted the claims had not been independently confirmed.
“For peace to prevail, we are pleading with the Chief Justice to remove himself from traditional issues involving Yilo Krobo,” he said.
The Stool Father maintained that the request was not intended to interfere with the work of the judiciary but rather to ensure that all parties had confidence in the outcome of the proceedings.
He reiterated the position of the Sra Langmasi Royals that Nene Sasraku II’s installation did not follow the customary procedures required by Yilo Krobo traditions.
Mr Tetteh said as the Setse responsible for performing the customary rites for the installation of a Paramount Chief, he did not undertake any such rites for Nene Sasraku II.
“As the Setse of the stool, nobody brought him to me to install him as a Paramount Chief. No rites were performed for him according to our customs,” he alleged.
He, however, stressed that the Royals remained committed to resolving the matter through lawful traditional and judicial channels and would respect the final decision of the Supreme Court.
The Yilo Krobo Paramountcy dispute has continued for several years, with rival factions contesting issues surrounding the legitimacy and recognition of the Paramount Chief.
The Sra Langmasi Royals said their latest appeal was solely aimed at preserving confidence in the judicial process and ensuring that the dispute is resolved peacefully and fairly.
