In observance of International Women’s Day, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Zanator Agyeman-Rawlings, has paid a heartfelt tribute to her late mother, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, celebrating her groundbreaking contributions to women’s rights and national development.
In her message, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings reflected on her mother’s indelible impact, highlighting her tireless efforts in advocating for social development, gender equality, and legislative reforms that have shaped Ghana’s progress.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings pointed out that Nana Konadu’s advocacy extended beyond national borders, citing her work in supporting the establishment of the Radiotherapy Unit at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, which has provided critical cancer care to countless Ghanaians.
She also celebrated her mother’s significant role in shaping the Interstate Succession Law, which she argued has helped protect vulnerable groups like widows and children, ensuring greater justice and dignity within families.
Her tribute went on to emphasize Nana Konadu’s grassroots efforts, where she worked closely with rural women, providing economic support through the creation of processing factories and aiding women-led businesses to create sustainable livelihoods.
Not only did Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings influence policy and development, but she also valued and empowered traditional leadership structures, particularly queenmothers, as champions for women and community welfare.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings concluded her tribute by urging both women and men to continue advocating for women’s empowerment. Reflecting on her mother’s life, she emphasized that “when women rise, families flourish, communities grow stronger, and nations prosper.”
As the world celebrated International Women’s Day, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings wished all women, both in Ghana and globally, a day of empowerment, reflection, and celebration.
