In a significant breakthrough for Ghana’s anti-narcotics campaign, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested Geoffrey Agbi, the alleged ringleader of a clandestine drug operation run from a gym at the Kuntunse Spirit Filling Station near Amasaman.
The arrest, which occurred on Friday, May 30 at around 6:20 p.m., followed weeks of targeted surveillance by NACOC’s special operations team. According to a statement released on Saturday, May 31, Agbi was apprehended in his private office at the gym, where officers retrieved multiple substances suspected to be illegal drugs.
Currently in custody, Agbi is assisting with ongoing investigations aimed at unraveling the full extent of the operation.
The dramatic arrest comes more than a month after an earlier NACOC raid on April 14 that exposed a network of suspected drug distribution hubs concealed within four businesses — a pub, boutique, salon, and the gym — all operating from the same location. That initial raid led to the arrest of five individuals, including two gym instructors: Elvis Owusu Yeboah and Joseph Godsway, a Nigerian national.
Agbi, the suspected kingpin, evaded arrest during the April sweep and was declared wanted. Further investigations revealed he had quietly resumed operations at the gym and allegedly recruited new personnel to maintain the illegal trade.
NACOC describes Agbi’s arrest as a critical milestone in dismantling what it calls an entrenched drug network embedded within a seemingly legitimate fitness center. Authorities say more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
