In response to public queries and rumors regarding the selection of Officer Cadets currently in training, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has clarified that these individuals were chosen under the previous government’s administration.
Addressing concerns about the fairness and transparency of recent military enlistments, Dr. Boamah explained that the current Ministry of Defence has only conducted an audit of the existing cadet list to ensure compliance with recruitment standards and fairness. This review resulted in the disqualification of several candidates who did not meet the set criteria.
“We merely audited and sanitised the list,” the Minister stated, underscoring that the vetting process aimed to uphold meritocracy and integrity.
He further reassured Ghanaians that the current government is preparing to launch its first official recruitment drive under the new Military High Command. “The first batch of enlistment and recruitment advertisement under this administration will be announced soon,” Dr. Boamah said, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to transparency and fairness.
The Defence Minister’s comments come at a time of increased public scrutiny of security sector recruitment, with citizens demanding greater accountability in the enlistment process.
Dr. Boamah reiterated the government’s vision to build a disciplined, professional, and accountable military institution that serves national interests and embodies core values of competence and integrity.
