The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has brought relief to thousands of candidates as it announced the release of the 2025 private Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results.
WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, confirmed that by the close of Friday, September 5, private candidates would be able to access their results online.
For many of the 1,661 private candidates — made up of 858 males and 803 females — the release marks the beginning of crucial decisions about their educational progression. Some sat for the exams to better their grades, while others used the private option for a second chance after missing out in previous years.
The 2025 BECE, which ran from June 11 to June 18, engaged a total of 603,328 school candidates in addition to the private candidates. While results for school candidates were published earlier on August 23, those who sat privately had waited anxiously for their turn.
WAEC indicated that candidates who breached examination rules were sanctioned in line with disciplinary procedures, assuring the public that the integrity of the exams had been protected.
The examining body also reported a 19.49% increase in private BECE entries this year, signaling growing interest in the alternative route for candidates seeking to improve their educational prospects.
For now, private BECE candidates can check their results through WAEC’s online portal, setting the stage for them to pursue senior high school placement, vocational training, or other academic opportunities.
