Fixing all nine malfunctioning traffic lights in Kasoa will require **GHS10 million**, according to Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor.
The estimate, she explained, was submitted by officials of the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) after a technical assessment in June 2025. The breakdown of the traffic systems has sparked growing concern among residents, following a rise in accidents involving pedestrians, particularly school children.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders of key trader associations on Thursday, October 2, the MP said mobilising funds for the project had become urgent due to the safety risks.
“Per the assessment of the Highway Authority, we will need GHS10 million to restore the traffic lights. It’s a safety issue, and so we’re trying to raise the funds,” she stated.
The GHA’s findings also indicated that trading activities around intersections contributed to the destruction of central control systems and signal lights. Ms. Okunnor cautioned that once funds are secured, strict measures will be put in place to protect the restored installations.
For now, however, Kasoa’s busy roads remain without functioning traffic signals, leaving commuters and pedestrians at risk.
