Pesidents of the Keta Municipality in the Volta Region have shared mixed but largely positive reflections on President John Dramani Mahama’s first year in office, pointing to policy interventions they say have begun to restore confidence and improve living conditions in their communities.

In interviews with the Ghana News Agency, some residents said the administration’s focus on resetting, rebuilding and renewing the country was evident in initiatives targeting social protection, education and infrastructure. Mr. Noah Agbemabiese, a resident of Abor, described the first year as encouraging, citing programmes such as the Big Push projects, free sanitary pad distribution for girls, the no-fee-stress policy, and the Mahama Cares social protection framework as interventions that were already making a difference.

He also pointed to improvements across sectors including agriculture, energy, education, healthcare and the private sector, noting that renewed investment in infrastructure had begun to improve the quality of life in both urban and vulnerable communities. According to him, these developments had given many residents hope and boosted local economic activities in the municipality.

However, some residents said challenges remained. A businesswoman, Ms. Ama Dzidedi Agbeko, said while inflation had declined significantly, trading conditions were still slow, calling for urgent attention in the government’s second year. She acknowledged recent economic data showing growth of about 6.1 per cent in the first three quarters of 2025 and a drop in inflation from 23 per cent at the end of 2024 to 6.5 per cent in December 2025, but stressed the need for policies that translate these gains into stronger market activity.

She also commended health-focused initiatives such as the Ghana Medical Trust Fund for persons living with non-communicable diseases and the Universal Health Coverage programme, while urging government to accelerate the construction of community roads under the Big Push agenda and strengthen the energy sector to support local businesses. Other residents echoed similar sentiments, expressing satisfaction with the administration’s first year but calling for more job creation opportunities for the youth. Their views come as a non-denominational thanksgiving service is being held in Accra to mark President Mahama’s first anniversary in office, highlighting the administration’s commitment to national renewal.
