The Ministry of Roads and Highways has incorporated 23 previously abandoned road projects, valued at GH¢14.88 billion, into the government’s Big Push infrastructure agenda, Roads and Highways Minister Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza has revealed.
Speaking in Parliament on March 24, 2026, Mr. Agbodza said the projects were originally awarded by the previous administration but were left incomplete due to funding challenges. They have now been novated with new financial backing to ensure timely completion.
“These 23 road projects, including the Suame Interchange, Takoradi–Agona dualization, and Kasoa–Winneba Road expansion, were absorbed into the Big Push programme to accelerate delivery and support economic growth,” he told lawmakers.
The Minister explained that the Big Push programme, structured around 12 major economic corridors divided into 54 lots, is designed to promote competition and expedite project completion.
Addressing concerns about procurement, Mr. Agbodza said sole sourcing was sometimes necessary for ongoing projects, especially when extending previously competitively awarded contracts. “It is globally acceptable to use sole sourcing in such situations to speed up completion,” he noted.
The announcement underscores the government’s commitment to reviving stalled infrastructure works and ensuring that critical road networks are completed for economic and social development.
