Efforts to tackle the growing housing deficit in Ho took a significant step forward as key stakeholders subjected the proposed “Oxygen City” affordable housing project to rigorous technical review.
At a high-level meeting organised by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council’s Spatial Planning Committee, planners, engineers, and environmental experts critically examined the feasibility, sustainability, and implementation strategy of the ambitious project.
The session featured a detailed presentation by the Tema Development Company (TDC), led by its Managing Director, Mr Courage Nunekpeku, who outlined the vision behind the Oxygen City concept—an integrated urban housing model designed to provide affordable, well-planned living spaces.
Participants used the platform to interrogate the proposal, raising concerns and offering expert input on key areas such as environmental impact, infrastructure demands, regulatory compliance, and financing options.
The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, emphasised that such thorough stakeholder engagement was essential to ensuring orderly urban development and avoiding the pitfalls of unplanned expansion.
He reaffirmed the region’s commitment to supporting the project, noting that if successfully implemented, the model could serve as a blueprint for other district capitals facing similar housing challenges.
The Oxygen City initiative is expected to combine modern residential design with green spaces and social amenities, positioning it as a potential long-term solution to urban housing pressures in the Volta Region.
