Development concerns in border communities took centre stage as the Aflao Traditional Council engaged a high-level government delegation led by Julius Debrah during a courtesy visit to the area.
While the meeting highlighted renewed efforts to deepen collaboration between the state and traditional authorities, local leaders used the opportunity to draw attention to pressing challenges affecting livelihoods in Aflao.
Paramount Chief Torgbiga Adzonugaga Amenya Fiti V underscored issues including deteriorating road networks, sanitation problems, youth unemployment, and security concerns linked to cross-border activities. He stressed the readiness of the traditional council to support government initiatives but called for tangible action to address these longstanding concerns.
In response, Mr. Debrah reaffirmed government’s commitment to prioritising investment in key sectors such as infrastructure, security, and trade facilitation, noting Aflao’s strategic importance as a major entry point into Ghana.
He also emphasized the critical role of chieftaincy institutions in governance, describing them as essential partners in mobilising communities and sustaining peace.
The engagement, which continued behind closed doors, focused on identifying priority projects and strengthening cooperation frameworks between local authorities and central government.
The visit forms part of broader efforts to boost grassroots engagement and ensure that development planning reflects the needs of communities, particularly in high-traffic border areas like Aflao.
