The President of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Mr Bawah Fuseni, has assured athletes, officials, and spectators that the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra is now firmly back on track following challenges that affected the opening day of the competition.
The championships, which have drawn participation from across the continent, were initially marred by concerns raised by journalists, coaches, and athletes. Issues cited included security lapses, accommodation challenges, scheduling delays, and difficulties accessing competition results.
However, Mr Fuseni says organisers have moved swiftly to address the concerns and implement corrective measures aimed at improving the overall experience for all stakeholders.
“I want to assure Ghanaians and the entire African continent that Ghana is prepared and will do whatever it takes to make this a successful competition,” he said.
He acknowledged the early setbacks but maintained that solutions have been put in place to prevent further disruptions.
“Although there were some hiccups, we have found good solutions and put measures in place. You will continue to see improvements until the final day of the championships,” he added.
Mr Fuseni further noted that security arrangements at the competition venues would be strengthened to guarantee a safer and more comfortable environment for athletes, officials, and fans.
Meanwhile, the championships have entered their third day, with host nation Ghana still searching for its first medal. Nigeria and South Africa continue to dominate the medal standings as the competition intensifies in Accra.
