Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Zabzugu Constituency, Alhaji Aliu Fawaz, has reaffirmed his commitment to the constituency, declaring that his defeat in the 2024 parliamentary election will not end his political engagement with the area.
Speaking in a video circulating on social media, the former Deputy Chief of Staff said he remains convinced that he has the vision and leadership qualities needed to serve the people of Zabzugu and intends to continue working in the constituency.
“I am the best person to lead the people of Zabzugu. I will never leave this constituency, and since I have decided, I’m not leaving,” he stated.
His comments come months after a closely contested parliamentary race in which National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Alhassan Umar secured victory with 15,508 votes, representing 43.30 percent of valid ballots cast.
Alhaji Fawaz, who contested on the ticket of the NPP, garnered 15,175 votes, equivalent to 42.37 percent, losing by a narrow margin of 333 votes.
Independent candidate Obori Bunakpabine Solomon polled 5,135 votes, representing 14.34 percent of the total votes cast.
Despite the electoral setback, Alhaji Fawaz’s latest remarks suggest he remains determined to maintain a strong presence in the constituency and continue pursuing his political ambitions in Zabzugu.
His declaration is likely to fuel discussions about the future political landscape of the constituency as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of subsequent electoral contests.
