“TESCON Must Be a School of Ideas, Not Just a Campus Branch” – Comms Director Hopeful

Aspiring NPP National Communications Director Gordon Asare-Bediako has called for TESCON to be transformed into a “school of ideas, discipline and public service” as part of efforts to revive the party’s generational pillar.

Speaking to a packed hall of students and party officials at the University of Education, Winneba during a lecture on “Reviving Our Generational Pillar for a Stronger Comeback”, he argued that the NPP’s future leaders are already seated in lecture halls and must be mentored now.

He defined the theme as a call to renew the living chain of values, sacrifice, loyalty, knowledge, courage and service that connects yesterday’s builders to today’s actors and tomorrow’s leaders. For the NPP, he said, that pillar has always included grassroots organisers, polling station activists, constituency workers, youth networks, TESCON members, communicators, professionals, and ordinary citizens.

Reflecting on the 2024 election, he said its lessons must not be lost. “Every serious political tradition must have the humility to learn from defeat without being imprisoned by it. Defeat must not become a cemetery of hope; it must become a classroom for renewal. The stronger comeback we seek will not come from anger, blame or slogans,” he stated.

On political education, he was emphatic that TESCON must go beyond campus activism. “Young people must understand the philosophy of the tradition they defend. They must know why the NPP believes in freedom, enterprise, development, democracy and accountable governance. A party that does not educate its young people will one day struggle to explain itself to the nation,” he said.

On communication, he noted that in modern politics, communication is central to trust. “It is not enough to have a message. The message must be clear, credible, timely and rooted in the lived experiences of the people. We must communicate before others define us. We must communicate with humility, not arrogance. We must communicate with facts, not insults,” he urged.

He then charged the party to revive youth confidence. “The young people of this tradition must not feel like spectators in their own party. They must be mentored, trusted, corrected, empowered and given meaningful space to serve. The future communicator, organiser, MP, minister, strategist and national leader of this party may be seated in this hall today. Our responsibility is to prepare that future, not postpone it,” he said.

On unity, he warned that no comeback is possible where internal energy is wasted on internal destruction. “Competition is natural in democracy, but after competition must come consolidation. The party must remain bigger than individual ambition, personal disappointments and temporary disagreements,” he added.

He concluded by saluting young communicators breaking frontiers on social media and alerting them that “President Mahama and his acolytes have unleashed the axis of evil on us under the guise of misinformation, disinformation, false publication among others. But don’t give up. Don’t cave in. The party is solidly behind you in this period of persecution. Remember the elephant never forgets.” He said: “We may have lost an election, but we have not lost our values. Once we revive our generational pillar, we will not lose the future. The comeback begins with us. The Elephant shall rise again.” The event was graced by Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin who was the Guest Speaker,. Other speakers included Alhaji Osman Masawudu, NPP First Vice Chairman, Kwame Prempeh, National Organizer hopeful among other party elders and lecturers
