Aboagye Questions Focus of COCOBOD Debate, Urges Attention on Current Administration

Former presidential staffer Dennis Miracles Aboagye has criticised what he describes as a shift in public accountability discussions surrounding COCOBOD, arguing that greater attention should be placed on recent developments rather than past financial decisions.

In comments responding to writer Kay Codjoe, Aboagye took issue with what he perceives as selective scrutiny by policy think tank IMANI Africa, accusing it of failing to apply equal pressure on the current administration led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He argued that much of the public conversation has focused on financial decisions taken before 2025, while key questions about the present state of COCOBOD’s operations remain largely unaddressed.

According to him, issues such as farmer payments, producer price adjustments and revenue management during the current period should form the core of national debate.

Aboagye also questioned what he described as limited public interrogation of revenue reportedly generated by COCOBOD in 2025, insisting that such figures require clearer explanation and accountability.

He wrote that discussions should not be dominated by historical references but should instead focus on present-day outcomes affecting cocoa farmers and the sector’s financial health.

“The year the farmer price was cut. The year the farmers stopped being paid. The year GH¢39 billion walked into COCOBOD and the farmer never saw it leave,” he stated.

He further criticised IMANI Africa’s Franklin Cudjoe and Kay Codjoe, arguing that their commentary had not sufficiently addressed the key financial questions he raised.

The remarks add to ongoing public debate over cocoa sector management, farmer welfare, and the transparency of COCOBOD’s financial operations.
