Counsel for former National Food Buffer Stock Company Chief Executive Officer, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, says the High Court in Accra has scheduled July 10 for the hearing of a habeas corpus application challenging his client’s continued detention.
According to lawyer Godfred Yeboah Dame, the application—filed at the High Court’s specialised division in Accra—seeks to compel the Director of the Bureau of National Intelligence and the Attorney-General to produce Abdul-Wahab in court and justify the legality of his detention.
Abdul-Wahab was arrested by armed operatives at the Accra International Airport on July 4, 2026, while preparing to travel abroad for a court-approved medical trip.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on July 6, Dame confirmed that the court had fixed July 10 for the hearing after the motion was moved on notice.
However, he described the date as too distant, considering the circumstances of the case, and indicated that the legal team would seek an abridgement to bring the matter forward.
“I think Friday is a little bit too far, so we’ll seek an abridgement of that date,” he said.
Dame further argued that the authorities’ failure to formally charge his client or file any application to justify the arrest raises questions about the legal basis for the continued detention.
He suggested that the absence of formal charges in court indicates that there may have been no lawful grounds for preventing Abdul-Wahab from travelling.
He also maintained that comments made by the Deputy Attorney-General were intended to justify the arrest and prevent compliance with the court order granting the medical travel permit.
