Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson says Ghana has risen to become the eighth-largest economy in Africa, citing improvements in the country’s economic performance and ongoing recovery efforts.
He made the disclosure while presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament, where he highlighted the ranking as an indication of progress under the government’s economic stabilisation programme.
According to the Finance Minister, Ghana’s improved position reflects gains in key economic indicators and the impact of measures implemented to restore macroeconomic stability.
He said fiscal reforms, debt restructuring and initiatives aimed at supporting economic growth had contributed to strengthening the economy.
Dr Forson assured Parliament that the government would continue with policies designed to consolidate the recovery, improve living conditions and create more employment opportunities.
He said the administration remained committed to sustaining economic growth and positioning Ghana as one of Africa’s leading economies.
The latest ranking comes as the government seeks to build on recent economic recovery gains while pursuing measures to maintain fiscal stability and improve the welfare of Ghanaians.
