Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have reinforced their defensive options with the signing of Usman Safianu as the club intensifies preparations for the new season and its CAF Champions League campaign.
The 24-year-old defender has joined the Tarkwa-based side on a three-year contract after leaving Hohoe United as a free agent following the club’s relegation from the Ghana Premier League at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Safianu arrives with valuable top-flight experience and the added advantage of versatility, with the ability to operate both as a full-back and a centre-back. His leadership credentials were also evident during his time at Hohoe United, where he served as captain.
The defender was among Hohoe United’s standout performers last season, contributing three goals despite the club’s difficult campaign.
His signing is expected to strengthen a Medeama defence that was one of the best in the league last season, conceding just 28 goals in 34 matches.
Head coach Ibrahim Tanko is continuing to build a squad capable of competing on both the domestic and continental fronts, with Safianu expected to provide defensive depth, tactical flexibility and leadership as the champions seek to retain their league title and make a strong impression in the CAF Champions League.
