The Obuasi East Municipal Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to early childhood education by supporting newly admitted kindergarten pupils as part of activities marking “My First Day at School” in the Municipality.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr William Kofi Adzowu, said the initiative was aimed at encouraging school enrolment and helping children begin their formal education in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Mr Adzowu, accompanied by the Municipal Director of Education, Mr Kwabena Owusu Nketia; Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Richard Blevi; and officials of the Education Directorate and the Assembly, visited Mampamhwe M/A School, Domeabra KG School and Diawoso M/A School.
During interactions with the pupils, the MCE encouraged them to take their education seriously and assured them of the Assembly’s commitment to supporting their development.
“Education is the greatest tool you will ever be given,” he said, adding that the children represented the future doctors, engineers, teachers and leaders of Obuasi East and Ghana.
He urged the pupils to concentrate on their studies, listen to their teachers and aspire to achieve their dreams.
Mr Adzowu said education remained a priority of his administration and pledged continued investment in learning infrastructure, teaching and learning materials, as well as the welfare of children across the Municipality.
He also appealed to parents to ensure that all children of school-going age were enrolled in school to enable them to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for their future.
As part of the exercise, the Assembly presented the newly admitted pupils with books, pencils, fruit drinks, biscuits and other learning materials.
Mr Owusu Nketia commended the Assembly for the initiative, saying sustained collaboration between municipal authorities and education managers was essential to improving school enrolment and promoting quality early childhood development.
He said greater attention to early childhood education would provide children with a strong foundation for their subsequent educational development.
