The residence of Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, was reportedly stormed by officers from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), in what the New Patriotic Party (NPP) describes as a brazen act of state intimidation.
The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday, April 9, was made public by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, who took to social media with the hashtag #SayNoToStateIntimidation, warning of an alarming trend of political harassment under the current administration.
The move comes in the wake of Fordjour’s explosive allegations regarding two “suspicious” aircraft landings at Kotoka International Airport, which he claimed could be linked to drug trafficking and money laundering activities.
While the government has strongly denied the claims, calling them unfounded, the reported attempt to arrest the outspoken MP has sparked outrage and renewed concerns about the use of state security apparatus to silence dissent.
Observers fear this could set a dangerous precedent in a democracy that prides itself on freedom of speech and accountability.
As of now, the National Intelligence Bureau has yet to officially comment on the alleged operation, leaving many Ghanaians questioning the motives behind the late-night action.
