The High Court in Tamale has convicted former Northern Development Authority (NDA) Chief Executive Officer Sumaila Abdul Rahman, his two former deputies and a private contractor in a case involving procurement breaches at the authority.
The convictions followed a prosecution by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which pursued the case over alleged procurement irregularities involving the NDA.
Those convicted are Mr Abdul Rahman, former Deputy Chief Executives Stephen Yir Aru Engmen and Patrick Seidu, and the Chief Executive Officer of A&Q Consortium, a private contracting firm.
The court delivered its decision on Friday afternoon, with proceedings still ongoing as the judge read the judgment.
The case centres on alleged procurement breaches linked to the operations of the NDA during the period covered by the prosecution.
The latest development marks a significant stage in the OSP’s efforts to pursue alleged procurement-related wrongdoing involving public institutions and private-sector actors.
Further details of the court’s findings, the specific offences for which the four were convicted and any sentences imposed were not immediately available as proceedings continued.
More details are expected following the completion of the court’s judgment.
