Kofi Ofosu Nkansah Urges NPP to Embrace Economic Inclusivity in Future Governance

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) takes stock of its recent electoral loss, former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has offered a pointed critique of the party’s past governance approach, calling for a more inclusive distribution of economic opportunities.

In a Facebook post that has sparked discussion within political and business circles, Ofosu Nkansah warned against the concentration of state-sponsored opportunities in the hands of a privileged few — a practice he believes cost the party valuable support within the private sector.

“Next time we get power, one thing we must guard against is over-centralisation of opportunities,” he wrote. “A contract that 10 people can do, they will give it to one person. We lost a lot of our business community friends because of this.”

His remarks reflect a growing willingness among NPP insiders to confront the internal missteps that may have contributed to the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections. While he did not cite specific cases or individuals, Ofosu Nkansah’s post strongly suggested that favoritism and monopolistic tendencies eroded trust between the party and its entrepreneurial base.

Observers view his comments as part of a broader introspection among party ranks, with calls to reset the relationship between government and the private sector by promoting fair access, transparency, and decentralisation.

The post also underscores an emerging narrative within the NPP — one that recognises the need for economic democratization as a cornerstone of any future governance strategy. For many, it is a call not just for political reform, but for a renewed social contract with Ghanaian businesses and young entrepreneurs.
