Newly appointed Asante Kotoko head coach, Abdul Karim Zito, is rallying his squad for a late push toward the Ghana Premier League title, expressing unwavering belief in the club’s chances as the season nears its climax.
Speaking ahead of Kotoko’s highly anticipated clash with long-time rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, May 4, Zito dismissed any notion of giving up, stressing that the title race remains wide open. The match, scheduled for 15:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium, is a pivotal encounter for both clubs.
Kotoko currently sit fourth on the league table with 50 points—just three behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars—making this weekend’s showdown a crucial opportunity to close the gap.
“For me, it’s simple: we keep fighting until the very last day. I have hope, and the players must have hope too,” Zito said during a pre-match interview. “We are not backing down. Every game is a chance to move closer to the title.”
Zito’s optimism follows a strong debut as Kotoko boss, having led the Porcupine Warriors to a much-needed 1-0 victory over Aduana Stars, ending the team’s four-match winless streak. His arrival has injected fresh belief into a squad that looked to be fading from the title conversation just weeks ago.
With momentum now shifting in their favour, Kotoko fans will be watching closely to see if Zito can guide the club to a dramatic late-season surge—and possibly, a championship celebration.
