The National Sports Authority (NSA) has assured Ghanaians that the Accra Sports Stadium pitch will be in top condition for the Black Stars’ crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier on Friday, March 20.
Director-General of the NSA, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, disclosed that although emergency renovation works are ongoing, the pitch will meet the required standards by match day.
“We are on it. Yes, a lot of emergency renovation work is needed, and that is what we are doing. But, God willing, by game day, everything will be fine,” he stated.
According to Ankrah, only two final treatment sessions remain to complete the pitch’s preparation, in line with the specifications provided by head coach Otto Addo.
“Coach Otto Addo has mapped out his strategy for Chad, so he knows what he is looking for. So far, I have heard he is very happy with the pitch, and if there are any necessary adjustments to make it perfect for Friday, he will communicate them,” he added.
The Black Stars have already held two training sessions at the stadium as they gear up for the qualifier, with their final session scheduled for Thursday.
Following Friday’s game, Ghana will travel to face Madagascar in their next World Cup qualifying fixture on Monday, March 24.
