A golf tournament held at the Achimota Golf Club has officially kicked off activities for the 3i Africa Summit 2026, bringing together top financial leaders, government officials, and industry stakeholders in a symbolic blend of sport and economic dialogue.
The ceremonial first tee shot was taken by Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama, and supported by Sports Minister Kofi Adams and President of the Ghana Golf Association Leonard Kwaku Okyere.
The event also brought together key figures including Achimota Golf Club President Frank Adu, Club Captain Emmanuel Quaicoe, and executives from the financial and telecom sectors such as the Venture Capital Trust Fund and MobileMoney Ltd.
Speaking at the opening, Dr Asiama described golf as an important platform for networking among business and policy leaders, while commending organisers and sponsors for their support in promoting the sport alongside economic engagement.
He further called for a bold national vision to position Ghana as a host of a major international golf tournament within the next three years, stressing that the goal is achievable with proper planning, financing, and stakeholder collaboration.
According to him, such an initiative would require strategic partnerships with government institutions, private sector involvement, international support, and alignment with a broader social development agenda.
Club President Frank Adu also encouraged corporate leaders to take advantage of golf’s growing influence within Ghana’s business and institutional circles to strengthen economic collaboration and networking.
The golf tournament forms part of the build-up to the 3i Africa Summit 2026, scheduled from May 6 to May 9, under the theme “The Next Frontier: Shaping Africa’s integrated fintech future.”
The summit is expected to be officially opened by former President John Dramani Mahama and will host high-level participants including central bank deputies, ministers, fintech leaders, investors, and development partners from across Africa.
Organisers say more than 3,000 participants are expected, with discussions focusing on innovation, investment, and financial inclusion across the continent.
Since its launch in 2024, the 3i Africa Summit has served as a platform for advancing Africa’s digital financial ecosystem through policy dialogue, exhibitions, and high-level networking sessions.
