The Ghana Premier League title race tightened over the weekend as Aduana FC held onto top spot with a narrow 1-0 victory over Techiman Eleven Wonders, while traditional giants Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko produced strong performances to keep pace in the standings.
At the University of Ghana Stadium, Aduana’s Charles Kamara scored the only goal of the match midway through the second half, a strike that ensured the Ogyaa Boys stayed two points clear at the summit with 18 points after eight rounds. The win also helped Aduana leapfrog Medeama SC, who were held to a 1-1 draw away to Hohoe United.
Elsewhere, Hearts of Oak continued their unbeaten start to the campaign with a gritty 2-1 win over struggling Basake Holy Stars at the AAK II Arena. The Phobians took control early on through Frank Eduku’s well-taken penalty before Hamza Issah doubled their lead. Despite a late consolation from the hosts, Hearts held on for all three points — moving up to third on the table with 16 points.
In Kumasi, Asante Kotoko responded to their recent CAF Confederation Cup elimination in emphatic fashion, dismantling Karela United 4-2 in front of a jubilant home crowd at the Baba Yara Stadium. Hubert Gyau bagged a brace, while Joseph Ablorh and Peter Amidu Acquah also got on the scoresheet as the Porcupine Warriors climbed to 11 points — having played only five matches, with three games in hand.
The weekend also brought wins for Berekum Chelsea, Dreams FC, and Bibiani Gold Stars, all of whom secured maximum points at home. Swedru All Black Stars were pegged back late by Heart of Lions, settling for a 1-1 draw.
