Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency, raising questions about compliance with the party’s directive suspending campaign activities by prospective parliamentary candidates.
Ms Safo announced her decision in a statement issued on the evening of October 23, 2026, despite an earlier directive by the party leadership prohibiting individuals seeking parliamentary tickets from campaigning.
On October 11, 2026, the NPP announced a ban on campaigning by prospective parliamentary candidates, describing the practice as contrary to the party’s regulations and Code of Conduct.
The party said campaign activities at that stage could create an uneven playing field and undermine the unity and discipline required for its political success.
It also warned that members who defied the directive would face appropriate action.
Ms Safo’s latest declaration has therefore drawn attention to how the party will enforce its directive, particularly as aspirants begin positioning themselves for the next parliamentary primaries.
The former legislator, who represented Dome-Kwabenya for 12 years, had previously shared photographs interpreted as signals of her intention to return to the constituency’s parliamentary contest.
Her October 23 statement, however, formally confirmed her intention to seek the party’s nomination when the primaries are opened.
The announcement presents a test for the NPP leadership as it seeks to enforce discipline among prospective candidates while managing competition for parliamentary tickets across constituencies.
It remains unclear from the available information whether the party has taken any action in response to Ms Safo’s announcement or whether it considers the declaration itself a breach of the campaign ban.
