Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Awentami Afoko, has appealed to party members to move beyond internal divisions and redirect their energy toward rebuilding a stronger, more united organisation capable of winning future elections.
Speaking during separate engagements with Council of Elders, regional executives, and patrons of the party across the Western North, Ahafo, Bono and Bono East regions, Mr. Afoko said lingering disagreements and past grievances were distracting the party from addressing current political and organisational challenges.
He cautioned that continued focus on internal disputes would weaken the party’s appeal, especially among young members who, according to him, are more interested in results and electoral success than historical conflicts.
“The youth in this party and many of us don’t want stories about who offended whom in the past. They want a party that is organised, united and ready to return to power,” he said, urging members to prioritise grassroots mobilisation and cohesion.
The former chairman explained that his engagements form part of efforts to strengthen party structures at the base and encourage wider participation, particularly from younger members.
He also reiterated his “3R agenda” — Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture power — as the guiding framework for repositioning the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections, stressing that unity was essential to achieving that goal.
Mr. Afoko added that while he had largely remained behind the scenes in recent years, recent developments had compelled him to take a more active role in promoting internal reconciliation and renewal within the party.
According to him, the NPP must choose between repeating cycles of internal blame or evolving into a more forward-looking political organisation focused on development and electoral success.
“The future will not wait for us to finish fighting the past,” he said, urging members to work together to strengthen the party’s chances of returning to power.
