Founder of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, is expected to take a decisive step in Ghana’s political landscape this week as his citizens’ movement transitions into a formal political party.
The much-anticipated unveiling will take place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra, where the party’s official name and symbol will be revealed. The event, scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m., is expected to attract major media attention and signal the beginning of a new phase in Mr. Kyerematen’s political journey.
A media invitation from the Movement indicates that slots have been reserved for editors, reporters, and producers from both morning and political talk shows to cover the ceremony.
Formed in 2023 after Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Movement for Change has since positioned itself as a reformist platform promoting what it calls the “Great Transformational Plan” — a development blueprint aimed at national renewal, unity, and inclusive governance.
Thursday’s event is expected to formalize the group’s transformation from a citizens’ movement into a political force with clear electoral ambitions ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a brief Facebook post hinting at what lies ahead, Mr. Kyerematen wrote: “Redemption time, #Redemption …” — a message many interpret as a rallying call for Ghanaians seeking an alternative to the country’s two-party dominance.
Political analysts say the formal launch could reshape Ghana’s political dynamics, especially as voters express growing appetite for new leadership and a break from traditional party politics.
