In a summer of exits and rebuilding at Arsenal, one player appears to have reasserted his value at just the right time — Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, whose contract renewal talks are now in motion.
The 31-year-old, once viewed as a possible departure target, is now central to Arsenal’s plans for the upcoming 2025/26 season, following a stellar campaign in which he clocked 52 appearances, his most since joining from Atlético Madrid in 2020.
While four senior players — Raheem Sterling, Kieran Tierney, Neto, and Jorginho — are all set to leave the Emirates at the end of June, Partey is bucking the trend. His improved form and durability over the last season have prompted Arsenal to enter discussions to extend his stay beyond June 30, 2025, when his current deal ends.
Partey’s four goals and three assists, combined with his composure and tactical discipline, were key to Arsenal’s midfield stability. The Gunners’ management has seemingly taken notice, prioritising his retention amid interest from Saudi and European clubs.
In a statement addressing contract statuses, Arsenal confirmed:
“The following players’ contracts also expire on June 30, 2025. Discussions are ongoing, and once matters are finalised between all parties, we will communicate in due course. Chloe Kelly, Thomas Partey, Michal Rosiak.”
Though no final agreement has been reached, Arsenal insiders suggest Partey is seen as a vital balance of experience and tactical maturity in a squad that will see significant change this summer.
His potential extension would not only be a show of faith from manager Mikel Arteta but also a nod to Partey’s ability to evolve — and stay fit — in a physically demanding Premier Leagu
