Arsenal have secured the future of one of their brightest young talents, Myles Lewis-Skelly, after the highly-rated 18-year-old signed a new five-year contract with the club.
The deal reaffirms the Gunners’ faith in the versatile defender, who has rapidly risen through the ranks to become a vital piece in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Having made 39 appearances in all competitions last season, Lewis-Skelly has gone from Hale End hopeful to first-team regular, impressing with his composure, intelligence, and tactical maturity. His previous contract was due to expire in 2026, but this long-term extension signals Arsenal’s intent to build their future around the England international.
In an interview with the club’s official website, Lewis-Skelly expressed his ambition:
“I want to win everything there is to win in the game. I want to build a legacy here and stay grounded while learning every day.”
Despite his youth, Lewis-Skelly already boasts an impressive set of stats. He was dribbled past only once in the Premier League all season — the best record among players with 15 or more starts. He also led the league in duels won per 90 minutes (6) and ranked third in fouls won (3.1). His 93.6% pass accuracy placed him fifth among all players who logged 1,000 minutes or more — a testament to his calmness under pressure.
Originally developed as a central midfielder, Lewis-Skelly has adapted seamlessly to a left-back role that allows him to drift into midfield — mirroring the tactical fluidity demanded by Arteta’s system. His Premier League debut came off the bench against Manchester City last September, and just months later, he was scoring his first league goal in a commanding 5-1 victory over the same opponents, cheekily mimicking Erling Haaland’s iconic meditation pose in celebration.
Though he saw red twice during the campaign — including a controversial dismissal against Wolves later overturned — the teenager has shown significant growth and maturity. His physicality, ball control, and positional awareness have not gone unnoticed.
On the international stage, he’s already making waves. In March, Lewis-Skelly became the youngest player to score on his England debut, netting in a 2-0 win over Albania at Wembley. He has since earned two more caps, including a recent outing against Senegal.
Lewis-Skelly’s rise has not just been about raw talent, but mindset — something he attributes to his upbringing in Arsenal’s famed Hale End academy.
“I’ve embodied the values of Hale End. I know who I am, and I want to stay humble and keep being a good person. That’s what matters most,” he said.
The teenager was also shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the Season, further cementing his status as one of England’s most exciting young players.
With this new contract, Arsenal not only secure a future star — they also reinforce their identity as a club committed to developing top-tier talent from within. And for Lewis-Skelly, the mission is simple: keep growing, stay grounded, and lead Arsenal into a new era of success.
