Mikel Arteta is poised to continue his long-term tenure at Arsenal after reaching an agreement with the Premier League champions on an improved contract.
The Spanish manager, whose existing deal is due to expire at the end of the season, has been in negotiations with the club for several months.
The agreement is expected to keep Arteta at the Emirates Stadium into at least his 10th year with the club, having taken charge in December 2019.
Although Arsenal have not confirmed the duration of the new contract, the deal is understood to include a significant increase on Arteta’s current £10 million annual salary, with his existing bonus structure also expected to be improved.
Talks had accelerated in recent weeks after both sides moved closer to reaching an agreement.
Arteta had previously sought to reassure Arsenal supporters about his future, making clear that he remained committed to the club.
“They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” he said last week.
Arteta’s new agreement will provide continuity for Arsenal as the club looks to build on its recent success under the Spaniard.
