Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is trailing behind in the race for the party’s 2028 presidential candidacy, according to the latest poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics.
Despite his prominence within the party, Asiedu Nketia has garnered only 10% of voter support, placing him in a tie for fourth with Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. This places him outside the top three, with the party’s vice president, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, emerging as the front-runner, securing 26% of voter backing.
Prof. Opoku-Agyeman is closely followed by Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu, who has 19%, and the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ato Forson, with 12%. These results suggest a strong showing for candidates with current government roles, as they appear to have a stronger base of support heading into the race.
Other key figures in the race, including Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle, and former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, have each captured 6% of voter preferences.
While Asiedu Nketia remains a central figure in the NDC, his relatively low polling numbers suggest a tough road ahead as he seeks to secure the party’s presidential ticket for the 2028 elections. The survey underscores the fierce competition within the NDC, as well as the shifting dynamics as new leaders gain prominence in the party’s race for the presidency.
