The Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Assembly has introduced a set of strategic reforms to strengthen its internally generated funds (IGF) following a decline in revenue performance.
Announcing the move at the Assembly’s first ordinary meeting in Nkawie, the Municipal Chief Executive, Wisdom Osei Boamah, said the seven-point strategy is aimed at addressing systemic weaknesses in revenue mobilisation and financial management.
The measures include staff capacity building, intensified tax education campaigns, formation of a dedicated revenue task force, and improved monitoring and evaluation systems. The Assembly also plans to review revenue collection processes and enhance public awareness of municipal bye-laws to boost compliance.
Mr Boamah revealed that the Assembly generated GH¢3.22 million in December 2025, representing 79 per cent of its target and falling short of the previous year’s performance. He attributed the shortfall to challenges such as weak sub-district structures, inadequate data, and logistical constraints.
Despite these setbacks, the MCE expressed confidence that the new strategies, coupled with stronger collaboration among stakeholders, would significantly improve revenue generation to support development projects across the municipality.
He also disclosed that the Assembly had received just half of its expected allocation from the District Assemblies’ Common Fund but continues to implement key projects, including school infrastructure, health facilities, and agricultural programmes in several communities.
