Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, says former President Nana Akufo-Addo has been vindicated following Parliament’s approval of the LGBTQ bill on May 29, 2026.
Reacting on social media, Bentil argued that critics who once pressured Akufo-Addo to assent to an earlier version of the legislation have now shifted their position after changes were made in Parliament. He suggested that the revisions to the bill expose inconsistencies in the broader public debate around it.
He described the situation as hypocritical, noting that while some previously insisted the former president should sign a stricter version of the bill, the current form has been significantly altered by lawmakers.
Bentil’s comments come in the wake of Parliament’s passage of the controversial legislation, which has continued to generate intense public and political debate across the country.
