Ghana’s Black Stars wrapped up their Unity Cup campaign in style, delivering a commanding 4-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, United Kingdom.
Led by captain Jordan Ayew, who opened the scoring in the 7th minute with his 31st goal for the national team, the Black Stars showcased a blend of experience and emerging talent in a match that underlined their potential heading into the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Unity Cup fixture was used by head coach Otto Addo to test fresh legs, handing debut starts to Caleb Yirenkyi, Mohammed Fuseni Gadafi, Lawrence Agyekum, and goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi. The gamble paid off, with three of the debutants—Gadafi, Agyekum, and Razak Simpson—registering their first international goals for Ghana.
Simpson quickly doubled Ghana’s lead in the 12th minute with a powerful header from a corner delivered by Ayew, while Gadafi added a third before halftime, finishing off a slick team move that left the Trinidad defence exposed.
Despite a spirited second-half response from Trinidad and Tobago, Ghana held their composure, with Ati-Zigi making key saves to maintain the clean sheet. Agyekum capped off the performance in the 59th minute, his low cross slipping through the hands of goalkeeper Hilaire for the fourth and final goal.
The resounding win secured Ghana the bronze medal in the Unity Cup, with Nigeria and Jamaica left to contest the final.
The Black Stars will return to competitive action in September, facing Chad and Mali in crucial qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With fresh talent stepping up and seasoned players delivering, Otto Addo’s side looks poised for a strong qualifying run.
