The United Cadres’ Front (UCF), a footsoldier wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has renewed calls for strict adherence to probity, accountability and transparency in public administration at all levels of governance.
National Chairman of the UCF, Mr Shine Gaveh, said the group remains committed to supporting the governing NDC to uphold these core principles within Ghana’s democratic system.
He made the remarks at the national Cadres’ Day celebration held in Kumasi to mark the 43rd anniversary of the June 4 Revolution. The event brought together national, regional and constituency executives of the group, former MPs, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and other party functionaries.
Cadres described as backbone of party mobilisation
Speaking on the theme “Ensuring Transparent Governance: The Role of Cadres,” Mr Gaveh described cadres as disciplined and loyal party activists who play a critical role in grassroots mobilisation, voter education, and campaign organisation.
He said their contribution has been key to strengthening internal party structures and sustaining political engagement at community level.
Mr Gaveh urged young party members to actively engage with cadre structures, stressing that their involvement was essential for protecting votes and ensuring electoral success for the party.
He noted that cadres have historically played a stabilising role by helping to resolve internal divisions and strengthen unity within the party.
Call for continued political discipline and loyalty
Ashanti Regional Vice Chairman of the UCF, Mr Kofi Topeng, also addressed the gathering, describing the cadre system as a training ground for dedicated political operatives who often serve in key electoral roles, including as polling agents.
He said their voluntary service demonstrates loyalty and commitment to the party’s broader political objectives.
Mr Topeng encouraged young members to remain steadfast, noting that the government is working to expand opportunities that would benefit those who remain committed to the party’s agenda.
He further stated that the UCF will continue to support the “Resetting Agenda” of the Mahama-led administration through the implementation of government policies and programmes.
Event concludes with call for unity
Former Member of Parliament, Mr Johnny Osei Kofi, who chaired the programme, commended participants for their turnout and urged continued dedication to the ideals of the cadre movement.
The celebration formed part of activities marking the June 4 Revolution anniversary, with participants reflecting on the role of cadres in party organisation and governance over the years.
