Former Tema West MP, Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah, has formally entered the race for the New Patriotic Party’s National Treasurer position, positioning himself as a candidate focused on financial transparency and stronger grassroots funding ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued in Accra, the former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry said his decision followed wide consultations with constituency and regional executives, grassroots members, and party elders across the country.
He stressed that the party’s ability to reorganise and mount a strong comeback depends heavily on how effectively its finances are managed and distributed.
According to him, the NPP requires a treasury system that is transparent, efficient, and capable of supporting grassroots mobilisation in a timely manner.
“Every cedi that comes in and goes out must be accounted for,” he said, adding that resources must be deployed quickly to support constituency structures, polling station activities, and election-day operations.
Mr. Ahenkorah pledged that, if elected, he would strengthen accountability mechanisms, widen the party’s fundraising base, and ensure stricter discipline in the management of party funds.
He also indicated his intention to collaborate closely with national leadership to guarantee fair and transparent allocation of resources to all levels of the party.
The former MP argued that his experience in public office, including managing budgets as a legislator and deputy minister, equips him with the competence needed for the role.
He called on party delegates to support his bid, insisting that a financially stable and well-organised NPP would be better positioned to rebuild trust with voters and return to power in 2028.
The party is expected to hold its national executive elections later this year.
