A 23-year-old cashier, Andy Tetteh, has been sentenced to three months of hard labour after admitting to stealing GH¢8,575.00 from his employer, which he used for gambling.
The Kaneshie District Court One convicted Tetteh on his own plea, after he acknowledged his wrongdoing during the court proceedings.
According to Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah, the incident occurred on April 30, 2025, when Tetteh, employed as a cashier at Bingo Bets in Adabraka, received a total of GH¢8,575.00 from customers who had come to place bets. Instead of accounting for the money, Tetteh kept it to himself and used it for betting, eventually losing it all.
The complainant, Mr. Teye Simon Kwabla, the manager at Bingo Bets, reported the incident to the police, leading to Tetteh’s arrest. During investigations, it was revealed that Tetteh’s gambling habit was the cause of his decision to misappropriate the funds.
After a thorough investigation, Tetteh was formally charged and brought before the court. The judge imposed a three-month prison sentence with hard labour as a deterrent to others.
