Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, has identified stronger engagement with the media as a key component of efforts to rebuild the party and reconnect with Ghanaians.
Known as Chairman COKA, he said the NPP would adopt a more open approach to media relations, with regular engagement and dialogue forming part of his leadership strategy in the Ashanti Region.
He made the remarks at a media soiree organised for journalists in Kumasi, where he emphasised the importance of maintaining a constructive relationship between the party and the press.
According to him, the media remains an important institution for democracy and national development and must therefore be treated as a strategic partner rather than an adversary.
“We need you to project us. We are ready to work with you. Our doors are always open for engagements,” he told the journalists.
Chairman COKA acknowledged that the NPP had made mistakes in the past and appealed to journalists to consider the party’s efforts to improve its public image as it prepares for future political contests.
He said the party was willing to learn from its shortcomings and work with the media to communicate its policies, achievements and future plans more effectively.
The Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman further stressed the strategic importance of the region to the party, saying effective communication would be critical to rebuilding public confidence and strengthening the NPP’s support base.
He urged journalists to continue holding political leaders accountable but also encouraged development-focused reporting on challenges confronting the Ashanti Region.
Chairman COKA said his administration would maintain an accessible leadership style and ensure that media practitioners had opportunities to engage party officials on issues of public interest.
The event brought together selected journalists from various media organisations in Kumasi as part of efforts to deepen relations between the Ashanti Regional NPP leadership and the media.
