The Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Dominic Adomah Ameyaw, has called on the Brong-Ahafo Catholic Cooperative Society for Development (BACCSOD) to deepen its support for local businesses as a pathway to accelerating socio-economic transformation in the Bono Region.
Speaking at the society’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dormaa-Ahenkro, Mr. Ameyaw acknowledged BACCSOD’s vital role in promoting financial inclusion and economic growth but appealed for a stronger focus on empowering indigenous entrepreneurs. He encouraged the Board of Directors to not only expand access to credit but also show compassion to struggling borrowers, especially in light of current economic challenges.
“I commend BACCSOD for its impressive financial performance, but I also urge you to walk alongside our local business owners and support those facing repayment difficulties,” the MCE said.
Mr. Ameyaw further urged the society’s leadership to enhance staff welfare and performance incentives to ensure long-term institutional success.
Board Chairman, Mr. Kwame Appiah, highlighted BACCSOD’s resilience amid inflation, regulatory hurdles, and economic volatility. He revealed that customer deposits and total assets had seen significant growth, reinforcing public trust in the institution.
“Our customers don’t just see BACCSOD as a bank—they view it as a reliable financial partner,” Mr. Appiah said.
Board Secretary Mr. Emmanuel Adu Agyemang described the AGM as a platform for accountability and strategic planning, noting that the cooperative had remained strong through prudent management and innovation.
Rev. Fr. Raphael Amoako Tawiah, Diocesan Manager of BACCSOD, reflected on the society’s humble beginnings in 1973 under the late Rev. Fr. James Kwadwo Owusu. Now operating for over four decades, BACCSOD boasts 81 offices and a workforce of more than 400 across the Bono Region.
With renewed calls for local economic empowerment, the Dormaa AGM marked both a celebration of BACCSOD’s legacy and a challenge to align its mission more closely with the changing needs of the communities it serves.
