Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has emphasized the importance of efficiently utilizing funds borrowed from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of the government’s strategic economic recovery plan.
During a recent engagement with the Ghana Heritage Club at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC, Dr. Forson stressed that the administration’s focus is not solely on the amount borrowed but on using the funds to drive transformative projects that benefit all Ghanaians. He assured that the government is committed to using borrowed funds for investments that have a direct, positive impact on the economy and social welfare, not for unnecessary expenditures.
Dr. Forson’s remarks came after his participation in the IMF/World Bank Spring meetings, where he shared updates on Ghana’s economic progress, including a significant increase in World Bank support through the Development Policy Operation (DPO), which now stands at over $400 million.
Acknowledging the contributions of Ghanaian professionals at the IMF and World Bank, Dr. Forson underscored the growing global confidence in Ghana’s economic reforms and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to using loans for productive investments that will bring lasting benefits to the nation.
