A Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has criticised the government’s Mid-Year Budget Review for failing to provide updates on several major hospital projects announced in the 2026 Budget.
Speaking at a press conference, the Abuakwa South MP said the Finance Minister omitted progress reports on key infrastructure commitments that formed part of the government’s health sector agenda.
According to Dr. Agyemang, the 2026 Budget pledged to complete three regional hospitals, construct new hospitals at Bole and Sampa, complete 10 Agenda 111 hospitals, and continue work on major projects including the La General Hospital, Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Maternity Block, and the Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sewua.
He also noted that government had committed to upgrading seven hospitals to improve maternal and child healthcare services.
Despite those commitments, Dr. Agyemang said the Mid-Year Budget Review contained no narrative or performance update on any of the projects.
He argued that the absence of progress reports raises concerns over whether meaningful work has been undertaken.
“If government had made significant progress, it would have been reflected in the review,” he suggested.
The MP further questioned the utilisation of the Ministry of Health’s capital budget, noting that approximately GH¢1 billion had been allocated for health infrastructure and other projects.
He maintained that Parliament and the public deserved a comprehensive account of how those funds had been applied, particularly in view of the critical healthcare infrastructure needs across the country.
Dr. Agyemang called on government to provide greater transparency on the implementation of health sector projects, insisting that infrastructure commitments must be backed by measurable progress rather than budgetary announcements alone.
