The Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi Central, Mrs. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has launched a fresh initiative aimed at empowering women in her constituency to become active participants in agriculture, particularly vegetable farming, as a means to boost socio-economic development.
The program, set to roll out in phases, will begin with a focus on cultivating lettuce, cabbage, pepper, spring onions, and carrots in Wassa Agona Amenfi. Mrs. Cudjoe has pledged to provide vital support, including assistance in securing farmland and facilitating access to financial resources, to help women transform farming into a sustainable business.
Highlighting the project’s transformative potential, Mrs. Cudjoe explained that vegetable farming offers women a viable path toward economic independence and financial stability. “This initiative provides a platform for women’s groups to collaborate on farming ventures with expert guidance and support from the MP’s office,” she said.
By enhancing local vegetable production, the project is expected not only to improve food availability in the district but also to strengthen the livelihoods of participating women, contributing to broader rural development goals.
Recognizing the crucial role women play in food production and rural economies, Mrs. Cudjoe appealed to government agencies, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders to partner in providing the necessary financial and technical support to scale up the initiative.
“Our women are key drivers of both family welfare and community progress. Supporting their agricultural ventures is essential for food security and sustainable economic growth in our district,” she noted.
