Veteran Ghanaian football administrator and former team manager of Hearts of Oak and the Black Stars, Sylvester Nii Sabahn Quaye, has died after a prolonged illness.
Quaye, who had been absent from active football administration in recent years due to health challenges, passed away following confirmation by his family after earlier media reports of his condition.
Widely respected within Ghana’s football community, Quaye built a reputation over decades of service marked by discipline, professionalism and commitment to the development of the sport.
He was a key figure at Accra Hearts of Oak, where he served as team manager during periods widely regarded as some of the club’s most successful eras. His leadership and organisational skills contributed significantly to the team’s stability on and off the pitch.
His expertise later earned him a role as team manager of the Black Stars, where he brought his experience to Ghana’s senior national team setup.
Beyond his work with Hearts of Oak and the national team, Quaye also held administrative responsibilities at other clubs, including Legon Cities FC, further cementing his influence in Ghanaian football administration.
In recognition of his contributions, the Ghana Football Association, through its Foundation, had visited him at his Accra residence in 2023, offering financial support of GHS10,000 towards his medical care.
Quaye is remembered as one of the most experienced and dedicated administrators in Ghana football, leaving behind a legacy of service that shaped both club and national team structures over many years.
