In what could be one of the biggest public sector financial scandals in recent years, the state has dragged former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director, Kwabena Adu Boahen, and his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng before the courts over allegations of stealing and money laundering involving a staggering GH₵49.1 million in state funds.
The couple, arrested on March 20 and 21 respectively, now face a slew of serious charges, including stealing, defrauding by false pretenses, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit crime.
Court documents, as obtained by Citi News, allege that the Boahens orchestrated a complex scheme to siphon public funds into private accounts using a company they jointly own — Advantage Solutions Limited. The company is also listed as the fourth accused party in the case and is believed to have served as the conduit through which the illicit transactions were executed.
The third accused, Mildred Donkor, who served as the former bank relations officer for the couple, is alleged to have played a critical role in facilitating the fraudulent financial activities.
The total amount reportedly diverted for personal gain is GH₵49.1 million — a figure that has sparked widespread public outrage and renewed calls for stronger financial oversight in government-affiliated institutions.
As the case unfolds, analysts say the scandal threatens to shake public confidence in the security sector and could trigger broader investigations into the financial conduct of public officers.
