The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) has arrested four individuals in separate operations across the country for unlawfully practising medicine without the required certification.
The suspects — Kate Baidoo, Ebenezer Koomson, Innocent Tagbovi, and Ebenezer Sarpong — were picked up between September 2024 and August 2025 during undercover investigations led by the Council.
According to the MDC, the arrests followed months of surveillance aimed at cracking down on quack medical practitioners endangering the lives of unsuspecting patients.
At the Osag Medical Centre in Nsakena, investigators caught Kate Baidoo in a consulting room attending to a patient, even though she was not registered with the Council. Similarly, at Gomoa Afransi, Ebenezer Koomson was arrested while offering medical services despite not passing the mandatory licentiate examination after completing a Physician Assistant programme.
In Madina, repeat offender Innocent Tagbovi, previously arrested in 2017, was again apprehended for posing as a medical practitioner. He admitted to failing the licentiate examinations on two occasions but had returned to unlawful practice.
The most recent operation, conducted on 14th August 2025, led to the arrest of Ebenezer Sarpong at the Goodcare Medical Centre in Swalaba Bukom.
The Council stressed that all four suspects are now assisting police with investigations and will face prosecution. Officials also reiterated their commitment to safeguarding public health by rooting out unlicensed practitioners.
