Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago have signed an Air Services Agreement aimed at strengthening air connectivity and creating new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement was signed during a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in New York on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
President Mahama said the agreement would provide a framework for improving aviation links between Ghana and the Caribbean nation while supporting broader bilateral relations.
“This agreement strengthens air connectivity and creates new opportunities for cooperation between our countries,” he said in a Facebook post.
The agreement is expected to facilitate stronger aviation cooperation and could provide a basis for increased movement of people and enhanced commercial links between Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.
Reparations, trade also discussed
Beyond aviation, the two leaders discussed developments regarding the reparations agenda, as well as trade and investment between Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.
The discussions form part of ongoing efforts by African and Caribbean countries to strengthen cooperation on issues relating to historical injustices, economic relations and shared interests.
The engagement also underscores the longstanding cultural and historical connections between Africa and the Caribbean and efforts by both sides to translate those ties into stronger economic and diplomatic cooperation.
President Mahama is currently in New York for diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting with Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar formed part of his engagements with international leaders as Ghana seeks to deepen bilateral relations and expand opportunities for cooperation in strategic sectors.
