Ghana’s government has reiterated its commitment to fairness and transparency in its ongoing debt restructuring negotiations, assuring external creditors that no party has received preferential treatment.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, May 29, 2025, the government confirmed it is strictly adhering to the principles of the G20 Common Framework, particularly the Comparability of Treatment, which ensures equitable terms for all creditors.
“This is consistent with the principle of Comparability of Treatment. No creditor has been treated preferentially,” the Ministry affirmed.
The government also underscored its compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with official creditors, noting that it has maintained arrears across the board for all creditors involved in the restructuring scope.
By reinforcing its adherence to internationally agreed protocols, the government aims to bolster creditor confidence and uphold Ghana’s credibility on the global stage.
“The Government remains committed to achieving a fair and mutually beneficial resolution with all creditors and extends its gratitude to its partners for their cooperation and patience,” the statement concluded.
Ghana’s reaffirmation of its equitable approach is expected to strengthen its position in the next phase of negotiations while aligning with broader efforts to restore macroeconomic stability.
